Why does the order not match the 1Y column?

Because they measure different periods. The order uses the year so far; the column uses the last twelve months. An ETF that started strong in January and faded shows up high in the order and low in the column. Open any row and you will see both numbers.

Is year to date a useful way to compare ETFs?

It is useful for seeing what is rising now. It is not useful for choosing an ETF. Comparing in January and comparing in November are not the same thing, because the window does not measure the same amount of time.

Which ETFs are excluded from this ranking?

Three things: leveraged products, impossible returns that come from errors in the data, and ETFs under one billion dollars.

Best performing ETFs year to date

Ranked by what they have made since January. The 1Y column measures something else: twelve months.

The current year starts on an arbitrary date and gets longer every month. It is useful for seeing what is working now. It is not useful for deciding what to buy and hold.
