AbbVie presents 22 IBD studies on Skyrizi and Rinvoq
Clinical and real-world data at the ACG meeting highlight long-term efficacy in Crohn's disease and colitis.
AbbVie announced the presentation of 22 scientific abstracts covering its inflammatory bowel disease portfolio at the American College of Gastroenterology 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, held from October 9 to 14, 2026. The presentations focus on clinical and real-world outcomes for Skyrizi and Rinvoq across Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
In the Phase 3 AFFIRM study, subcutaneous risankizumab (Skyrizi) achieved significantly higher rates of clinical remission and endoscopic response versus placebo at Week 12 in moderately to severely active Crohn's disease, with benefits maintained through Week 24 among responders. An indirect comparison also showed higher endoscopic response rates for subcutaneous risankizumab compared to guselkumab during induction. In the Phase 3 FORTIFY open-label extension, 74.5% of patients with fistulizing Crohn's disease had no draining fistulas after five years, alongside sustained outcomes through 144 weeks across ileal, colonic, and ileocolonic disease. Results from the SEQUENCE extension demonstrated efficacy through 148 weeks following anti-TNF failure, while the COMMAND extension showed sustained improvements through three years in ulcerative colitis.
Real-world studies evaluated upadacitinib (Rinvoq) in advanced Crohn's disease cohorts. Among patients in the Veterans Affairs health system remaining on treatment, 93.3% with fistulizing disease and 76.9% with stricturing disease reached clinical and corticosteroid-free remission. In Department of Defense data on isolated ileal Crohn's disease, 57% of patients achieved clinical remission, 58% had an endoscopic response, and 53.6% achieved endoscopic remission at six months.
AbbVie previously submitted an application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on April 27, 2026, seeking approval of Skyrizi for subcutaneous induction in adult Crohn's disease.
