The 48-hour event aims to capture early holiday spending and test consumer demand.
Amazon scheduled its Prime Big Deal Days event for October 6 and 7. The 48-hour shopping event is designed to capture early holiday spending ahead of Black Friday and test consumer demand before the fourth quarter.
Prime members will receive access to discounts across more than 35 categories, including technology, beauty, fashion, and kitchen and home products. Amazon announced that new deals will launch three times each day through Today's Big Deals. The company will also use Alexa for Shopping to alert shoppers about discounts and offer recommendations based on past purchases.
The company stated that more than one million products will be offered at their lowest prices of the year so far. Carmen Nestares, vice president of North America marketing and Prime Tech, noted that the event helps shoppers prepare for hosting, decorating, and holiday gifting while saving money.
The promotion follows a strong financial performance in the second quarter. Amazon reported that its second-quarter revenue grew 20% to $200.6 billion, while North America sales increased 16% to $116.2 billion. Operating income rose 43% to reach $27.5 billion.
