The new products are manufactured in Ludwigshafen to help customers reduce Scope 3.1 emissions.
BASF has launched a new portfolio of paper coating dispersions with reduced Product Carbon Footprints (rPCF). Manufactured at its Ludwigshafen Verbund site, the new products carry roughly 20% to 45% lower carbon footprints compared to conventional alternatives.
The line is designed to help paper and board manufacturers meet Scope 3.1 carbon-reduction targets for purchased goods and services. BASF reduces emissions by using low-PCF raw materials alongside green utilities, including renewable electricity and low-PCF steam.
The company produces the portfolio through a mass-balance approach, substituting a portion of conventional inputs with lower-footprint options while keeping manufacturing processes unchanged. This setup functions as a drop-in solution, enabling customers to switch without product requalification. TÜV Rheinland certified that BASF's calculation method conforms to the Together for Sustainability standard.
Over the past year, BASF shares have gained 20.1%, compared to a 0.2% increase for the wider industry.
