Crude prices dropped on Friday but gained more than 8% over the week amid Middle East tension.
Brent crude futures settled down 2.81% at $104.61 per barrel on the Intercontinental Exchange on 11 September. Over the full week, the global benchmark gained 8.65% and remained above the $100 per barrel threshold.
West Texas Intermediate for October delivery fell 2.37% to $100.05 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Across the week, the United States contract advanced 9.37%.
Market uncertainty remained elevated following days of rising tensions between the United States and Iran. Investors tracked attacks in Saudi Arabia by Iran-backed Houthi forces. In Yemen, the group captured the port city of Mokha along the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. While international news agencies reported that some crude exports still crossed the Strait of Hormuz, maritime flows remained under pressure.
