The Argentine exchange will allow offshore assets such as US Treasuries as collateral starting 17 September.
Bolsa y Mercados Argentinos will expand its repo trading options on 17 September 2026 by adding cable dollars as a trading and settlement currency. The new format allows participants to post eligible foreign-custodied assets, including US Treasuries, as collateral.
The traditional repo structure remains unchanged, connecting cash lenders seeking yield with borrowers pledging assets. Operations will clear through Caja de Valores, enabling agents to access settled funds abroad without currency conversions. María José Del Boca, chief of trading & CCP at ByMA, stated that repos recorded an average daily volume of approximately 6.2 trillion Argentine pesos in August.
Transactions will operate under the risk and collateral framework of ByMA Clearing. María José Del Boca noted that the mechanism is designed for companies with foreign trade cash flows, clients with offshore accounts, and investors managing dollar portfolios.
To encourage initial trading, ByMA will apply a 50% discount on market fees for all cable dollar repo trades executed between 17 September and 16 October 2026. The fee discount will apply to both lenders and borrowers.
