Ecopetrol names Suárez Rojas as its new board chairman

Ecopetrol has appointed Carlos Augusto Suárez Rojas as chairman of its board of directors. The board elected Suárez Rojas during a meeting on September 17, while naming Claudia Margarita Lafaurie Taboada as vice chair.

Suárez Rojas replaces Luis Felipe Henao Cardona, who stepped down as chairman but remains on the board to lead the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Committee. Ecopetrol thanked Henao for his tenure and strategic contribution.

The Colombian energy group also reorganized the leadership of its six main board committees with immediate effect. Ricardo Rodríguez Yee will lead the Audit and Risk Committee, José Camilo Manzur Jattin will head the Business Committee, and Suárez Rojas will also chair the Compensation, Nomination and Culture Committee. Meanwhile, Betzy Patricia Martínez Zapatero takes charge of the Territorial Transformation and HSE Committee, and Lafaurie Taboada will oversee Technology and Innovation.

The leadership overhaul arrives as Ecopetrol produces more than 60% of Colombia's hydrocarbons and manages broader assets across refining, transport and petrochemicals. The group also holds a 51.4% controlling stake in transmission group ISA, alongside exploration and production assets in Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S. Permian Basin and Gulf of Mexico.
