Cathay Pacific tested the technology across more than 80 flights to help pilots reduce climate impact.
Alphabet expanded its contrail-reduction artificial intelligence initiative through a partnership with Cathay Pacific. An initial trial across more than 80 flights delivered an estimated 40% reduction in contrail-related warming. The test marks the first time Google deployed the system on ultra-long-haul routes and within the Asia-Pacific region.
The platform combines satellite imagery, weather data, and AI forecasts. It identifies specific atmospheric zones in flight paths. Pilots can then adjust their altitude to avoid creating persistent contrails.
Neither company disclosed a contract value or commercial rollout plan for the software. In its latest reported quarter, Alphabet produced $119.8 billion in total revenue, which included $24.8 billion from Google Cloud. Alphabet shares stood at their prior closing price of $335.31 while United States markets remained closed.
