The potential partnership centers on producing memory chips in the United States.
On 16 September, shares of Intel rose 4.7% during afternoon trading and closed the day at $101.22, up 4.1%. The move came after Reuters reported that Intel and South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix are in discussions over a potential manufacturing deal. Shares of SK Hynix also gained 3.17% on the news.
The prospective agreement focuses on producing memory chips within the United States. Investors welcomed the possibility of a domestic semiconductor production partnership between the two manufacturers.
The stock has experienced strong price swings, recording 65 moves of more than 5% over the past year. Intel shares have gained 157% since the start of the year. However, at $101.18, the stock remains 28.2% below its 52-week peak of $140.94 reached in June 2026.
