The chipmaker is both supplier and shareholder as SpaceX plans to launch AI satellites in late 2027.

Mentioned
Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is extending its AI reach beyond Earth as SpaceX prepares to launch satellites powered by the chipmaker's technology, opening a potential new source of demand for its accelerators.
SpaceX plans to begin launching its first AI satellites in the fourth quarter of 2027, with the network targeted for broader deployment in 2028. Elon Musk has said orbital computing could eventually offer a different way to handle energy-intensive AI workloads.
The relationship extends beyond hardware sales. Nvidia disclosed ownership of 122.8 million SpaceX shares, making it both a supplier and a shareholder. Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin systems are also being shipped to SpaceX alongside other major cloud customers.
The opportunity remains speculative. Analysts do not expect SpaceX's orbital computing operations to generate meaningful revenue until at least fiscal 2029, while technical issues involving heat removal, radiation exposure, satellite congestion and regulation could slow deployment. SpaceX could become an additional long-term customer, but the financial impact is likely to stay limited until orbital computing reaches commercial scale.
