The Brazilian telecom operator expanded its market share to 26.1% and reached 32 million customers.
TIM started 2008 with the highest number of mobile customer additions among Brazilian operators, adding 792,000 lines in January. The expansion lifted the company's total customer base to 32 million lines.
The performance raised TIM's market share by 0.25 percentage points from December to 26.1%. This advance widened its lead over third-place competitor Claro and narrowed the gap to market leader Vivo from 1.83 to 1.34 percentage points.
Competitors posted slower subscriber growth and lost market share over the same period. Claro registered 284,000 additions to reach 30.5 million lines, dropping 0.15 percentage points to a 24.84% share after standing at 24.99% in December. Vivo added 224,000 lines to reach 33.7 million customers, while its market share fell from 27.68% to 27.44%.
