The greenback fell 56 pesos over the week amid US inflation data and local budget debates.
The US dollar closed Friday at 3,084.90 Colombian pesos, dropping 6 pesos from the previous session's close of 3,090 pesos. This marked the second consecutive day the currency stayed below the 3,100 pesos threshold. Over the entire week, the dollar recorded a loss of 56 pesos compared to its opening level of 3,140 pesos on Monday.
During Friday's trading, the currency reached a high of 3,085.99 pesos and a low of 3,066.50 pesos. The average exchange rate stood at 3,072.86 pesos. JP Tactical Trading reported that trading saw heightened volatility during the final minutes and ended near daily highs, observing buying interest around its short-term target range between 3,070 and 3,050 pesos.
Internationally, United States consumer prices rose 0.4% in August, raising expectations among analysts that the Federal Reserve could lift interest rates. Oil prices also declined as Middle East tensions escalated: Brent crude fell 2.51% to US$104.94, while WTI decreased 1.87% to US$100.60. Domestically, Colombian markets await the deadline early next week to approve the 2027 national budget amount.
