The restart follows court approval and an agreement with Minas Gerais authorities.
Brazilian miner Vale announced on September 23 that it has begun partially resuming operations at the Mina de Fábrica site in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais. The restart follows authorization from the Court of Justice of the State of Minas Gerais.
The decision is based on a commitment agreement established between Vale, the State Public Prosecutor's Office, and the State of Minas Gerais. Operations had been halted by court order in February following a water leak in the Cava Área 18 pit, which required technical proof of stability and safety across all site structures.
According to the company, the restart will comply with all applicable safety conditions, environmental controls, licenses, permits, and conditions, as well as the ongoing actions established in the commitment agreement.
