Founded in 1872, China Merchants Port Group Co., Ltd. adopted its current name in December 2018, having previously been known as Shenzhen Chiwan Wharf Holdings Limited. The company is headquartered in Shenzhen, China, and functions as a subsidiary of China Merchants Port Investment Development Company Limited.
