Access requires a $20 monthly subscription and a Google Cloud project.
Alphabet shares gained approximately 1.5% to $347.91 on Thursday, 17 September 2026. The move came as Google opened its smart-home ecosystem to rival artificial intelligence agents, transforming Google Home into an open distribution platform.
The integration operates through Google's Home MCP server. Compatible outside agents can inspect connected devices, monitor status, run commands and review household history. The feature requires a Google Cloud project and is gated behind the Premium Advanced plan, which costs $20 per month or $200 per year.
Third-party agents such as Claude and OpenClaw can now route users into Google's paid home infrastructure even when Gemini does not handle the interaction. Google has restricted high-risk actions such as unlocking doors, though third-party access introduces new security and privacy trade-offs for household data.
