The biotech firm will lease back space at the 70-acre Illinois property.
An entity tied to Chicago financial services firm Mesirow purchased the Amgen office campus in suburban Deerfield, Illinois, for $151 million in a sale-leaseback deal. The property spans 660,000 square feet across three buildings on a 70-acre site at 1 Horizon Way along Interstate 294.
Amgen will stay on the property and occupy one of the three buildings. Fortune Brands Innovations occupies the other two buildings and previously stated it plans to place up to 1,000 employees at the location by 2027. Further terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Amgen gained ownership of the campus through its 2023 acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics. Horizon originally bought the property from Japan-based Takeda Pharmaceuticals for $115 million in 2020. Takeda had used the site as its United States headquarters from its construction in 2010 until that sale.
