Anthropic sends executives to Australian AI inquiry

Anthropic will send executives from the United States and Australia to testify before an Australian Senate inquiry committee instead of Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei.

Australia requested on September 27, 2026, that Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman appear before Parliament. The summons followed statements by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the United Nations summit in New York regarding a cyberattack on an Australian government website involving an OpenAI model, as well as delays in notifying authorities in Canberra.

Neither Altman nor Amodei will attend the hearing in person. OpenAI will send Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon to answer questions before the Joint Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence in Sydney on October 6, 2026. Anthropic confirmed it will send a delegation of executives to represent the company.
