Bayer announced plans on October 2, 2026, to invest 2.2 billion U.S. dollars to build a new pharmaceutical manufacturing site in New Albany, Ohio. The multi-year project builds on more than seven billion dollars spent on U.S. pharmaceutical research, development, and manufacturing over the past five years.

The facility will be located in the New Albany International Business Park. Bayer expects to create around 600 high-value jobs at the site, along with roughly 1,500 jobs during construction. The campus will combine drug substance and drug product manufacturing, supporting the company's portfolio initially in oncology, cardiovascular, and renal care.

The plant will open in two phases. The first module, focused on drug substance manufacturing, is scheduled to become operational in 2031. A second module for drug product manufacturing is planned to follow in 2034. The location complements Bayer's U.S. pharmaceuticals headquarters in Whippany, New Jersey, alongside existing sites in Pittsburgh, Berkeley, Cambridge, Research Triangle Park, and San Diego.

In fiscal 2025, Bayer employed around 88,000 people globally, generating sales of 45.6 billion euros and spending 5.8 billion euros on research and development.
