The cryptocurrency dropped after a key procedural vote failed to advance the regulatory bill.
Bitcoin dropped on 15 September after the US Senate blocked the advancement of the Clarity Act. The regulatory bill received 49 votes in favor and 50 against in a procedural vote. It required 60 votes to advance to formal floor consideration.
Around 18:00, Bitcoin traded at $75,886.76, down 3.9% over 24 hours according to CoinGecko. In Brazil, the token traded at R$ 391,882.59, marking a 4.17% decline over the same period according to Cointrader Monitor. Other digital assets also retreated. Ether dropped 4.9% to $2,406.71, Solana fell 5.4% to $97.30, XRP decreased 12% to $1.29, and BNB declined 1.1% to $715.41.
The procedural setback hampers the bill's prospects in this legislative session ahead of November congressional elections. Henry Oyama, head of investment strategies at Hashdex, noted that the initial price reaction reflects frustration over delayed regulatory clarity, though part of the outcome was already priced in by the market.
Thiago Sarandy, general director of Binance in Brazil, stated that the US Congress missed an opportunity to establish a legal architecture for financial markets. He explained that rules will now continue to be set gradually by regulators, courts, and foreign jurisdictions.
