The German airline group exercised purchase options on 17 September 2026 to expand its fleet.
Lufthansa Group announced on 17 September 2026 that its Supervisory Board approved exercising purchase options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft. The order carries an estimated list value of 3.4 billion dollars.
The transaction builds on an earlier deal from December 2023, when the German aviation group ordered 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets. With this latest decision, Lufthansa Group holds 60 firm orders for the Boeing 737 MAX family alongside 40 remaining purchase options.
The carrier expects the 737 MAX 10 to deliver a 30% reduction in fuel consumption compared with older Airbus A320 models. Higher seat capacity is also projected to yield an estimated 20% cut in unit costs.
The new planes form part of Lufthansa Group's broader fleet renewal program, which includes 250 new aircraft scheduled for delivery through 2035.
