Central Puerto agrees to direct gas supply deal
The contract transfer runs until the end of Plan Gas in December 2028.
Pluspetrol agreed to transfer natural gas contracts from the Plan Gas program directly to power generator
Central Puerto. The arrangement took effect on October 1 and will run until Plan Gas concludes in December 2028.
The transaction makes both firms the first non-integrated companies in the sector to withdraw their contracts from the centralized framework managed by wholesale administrator Cammesa. The deal aligns with an ongoing electricity reform designed to expand direct contracting mechanisms among private parties.
The transfer was enabled by Resolution 400/2025 and regulated by Resolution 501/2025 from the Energy Secretariat. These rules allow fuel self-management and permit gas producers to exit Plan Gas contracts early by finding a private buyer, such as an electricity generator, distributor, or large consumer.
Central Puerto stated that the agreement reinforces its active role in developing a competitive electricity market driven by private initiative, while optimizing natural gas supply for its power generation plants.
