The former KFC chief executive joins the restaurant chain's board of directors immediately.
Chipotle Mexican Grill announced on 14 September 2026 that it appointed Sabir Sami to its board of directors, effective immediately. With this addition, the company's board expands to 11 directors, 10 of whom are independent.
Sami brings more than 30 years of global consumer and restaurant industry experience. He spent 16 years at Yum! Brands, where he served as chief executive officer of KFC from January 2022 to February 2025. His previous roles include chief operating officer of KFC, managing director of KFC Asia, and managing director for markets across the Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan and Turkey. He also served as general manager of Yum! Canada and held general manager roles for KFC in Canada and Turkey after joining Yum! Brands in 2009. Earlier in his career, he worked at Procter & Gamble, The Coca-Cola Co. and Reckitt Benckiser.
Sami founded the business consulting firm Sami Advisory in August 2025, where he currently serves as a director. He also sits on the board of directors of Save the Children Canada and holds an MBA from the University of Karachi in Pakistan.
Sabir brings deep restaurant operating expertise and a proven track record leading brands across international markets. That experience will be invaluable as we scale Chipotle with intention, strengthen our operations and expand access to our brand around the world.
Chipotle operated more than 4,200 restaurants as of 30 June 2026 across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the Middle East, employing nearly 140,000 workers.
