The sale involved converting 28,292 stock options that were immediately sold as Class A shares, fully liquidating von Ahn's directly held Class A position. The executive continues to hold about 3.4 million derivative securities and directly held Class B shares, which can convert into Class A common stock at the holder's option.
As of the transaction date, Duolingo shares had posted a one-year total return of negative 47%, closing at $148.17 on September 16, 2026. The company holds a market capitalization of $6.7 billion and reported $410.8 million in trailing 12-month net income. In its second quarter, revenue grew 18% year over year to $298.5 million, while daily active users increased 23% to 58.7 million.
