GameStop holds a $4.9 billion position in eBay as collectible merchandise demand expands.
eBay is the subject of a substantial strategic position held by retailer GameStop. As of the second quarter of fiscal 2026, GameStop held a 10% ownership share of the outstanding common stock of eBay. That position was valued at $4.9 billion.
The stake produced $238 million in net investment gains for GameStop during the second quarter. In May 2026, GameStop had submitted an unsolicited takeover proposal for eBay valued at $56 billion.
The marketplace has placed increasing weight on specialized goods. Focus categories including collectibles represented 70% of the total business of eBay in the second quarter of 2026. These focus categories achieved a year-over-year growth rate of 20% during that period.
Industry projections estimate that the United States collectibles market could reach $100 billion by 2033. For its part, GameStop operates 1,600 physical retail store locations across the United States. GameStop generated $356.3 million in collectibles and trading cards net sales in its second quarter, representing a 57% increase year over year and 45.1% of its $790.2 million in total net sales.
