The retailer targets delivery efficiency after testing the eyewear across 275,000 drop-offs.
Amazon is expanding the rollout of AI-powered smart glasses for delivery drivers to cut friction in last-mile logistics. The wearable eyewear provides navigation, package details and safety alerts directly within the driver's field of view, reducing reliance on handheld smartphones.
The company previously tested the technology with more than 500 delivery associates over 18 months, completing over 275,000 deliveries. Amazon now plans to roll out 5,000 devices this year and reach more than 20,000 units in service by the end of 2027.
Using computer vision and cameras, the glasses activate once a driver parks safely. The system highlights which parcels to retrieve, offers walking directions in complex settings such as apartment buildings, warns about pets, verifies delivery addresses and records proof of drop-off. The setup includes a wearable controller equipped with an emergency button and a replaceable battery.
Adoption of the glasses remains voluntary for delivery-service partners and their drivers. The push marks a broader shift in artificial intelligence spending toward physical fulfillment operations, where minor gains in stop times could help protect operating margins.
