Ecopetrol completes $1B Caribbean offshore campaign
The Colombian producer and operator Petrobras drilled five deepwater exploration wells over two and a half years.
Ecopetrol and Petrobras announced the completion of an offshore exploration campaign in the deep waters of the Colombian Caribbean. The project lasted two and a half years and required investments of nearly $1 billion. The work included drilling five exploration wells and ended with no recorded accidents or operational incidents.
The campaign expanded knowledge of Colombia offshore natural gas potential. Activities took place under the GUA-OFF-0 contract with the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH). Ecopetrol holds a 55.6% stake in the block, while operator Petrobras holds the remaining 44.4%.
Logistics for the operation included more than 1,000 helicopter flights and 1,400 flight hours to move over 16,000 passengers safely. Teams transported more than 45 million liters of fuel and 147,600 tons of cargo by sea, covering over 22,000 nautical miles.
The companies reported that community programs benefited more than 15,000 people through education, economic development, and environmental conservation. Initiatives included supporting local fisheries, installing 1,500 residential gas connections, and restoring local ecosystems.
