Musk's X and SpaceXAI drop Apple from AI antitrust lawsuit

Elon Musk's X Corp and SpaceXAI have moved to dismiss their antitrust claims against Apple in a lawsuit that accused the iPhone maker and OpenAI of restricting competition in smartphones and generative AI chatbots. The legal filing ends Apple's involvement in the case, though Musk's companies are continuing their claims against OpenAI.

The court filing did not disclose the reason for the dismissal or reveal whether Apple and Musk's companies reached a settlement. The lawsuit had claimed Apple breached antitrust law by integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence on iPhones and other devices. Apple denied wrongdoing and argued that its OpenAI integration was never exclusive.

The dismissal follows a U.S. judge's decision in November 2025 to allow the case to proceed, rejecting an earlier attempt to end it. The resolution comes as Apple broadens its artificial intelligence strategy: it launched Siri AI in beta this month, using Apple Foundation Models developed with Google and its Gemini models, while retaining ChatGPT as an extension within Siri.

OpenAI said it was not involved in any agreement between the parties, did not know its terms, and asked X to disclose the details because they could affect its ongoing defense. Apple, Musk's companies, and OpenAI did not immediately comment to Reuters.
