The digital bank expands internationally with multi-currency accounts and a 0% transaction fee.
Nu Holdings announced on 10 September 2026 its retail banking expansion into the United States alongside the debut of Nu Global. The digital lender, which serves 140 million customers across Latin America, introduced the multi-currency product to allow sending and receiving funds across 35 eligible countries.
Nu Global charges a 0% transaction fee on international transfers. The account offers an annual daily yield of 3.50% on digital dollar balances and 2.20% on digital euro balances.
In the US retail market, Nu launched a deposit account featuring a base annual percentage yield of 3.50%. Savers can reach a conditional yield of 4.50% on savings goals, capped at a promotional balance of 10000 USD. The rollout also includes a US credit card with an annual fee of 0 USD, offering a base cash back rate of 1.5% and up to 2.0% under conditional terms.
The company cited World Bank data showing 300 million people live or work across borders, moving 800 billion USD globally in 2025 while losing an average of 6% to fees and foreign exchange margins. Nu also highlighted BCG estimates placing US retail banking revenue at 1.2 trillion USD in 2024, after growing at a 7% compound annual rate from 2019 to 2024, with projections reaching 1.4 trillion USD by 2029 as US institutions collect 82 billion USD in annual retail banking fees.
