Palo Alto Networks launches AI defense after $17M investment

Palo Alto Networks launched its Unit 42 Continuous Frontier AI Defense service on September 22, 2026. The new offering integrates Claude and GPT models to defend against automated cyberattacks. The company invested 17 million dollars in research, development, and methodology optimization to build the service.

The launch follows six months of internal testing and 100 customer engagements conducted by Unit 42 to validate the methodology. In internal deployment testing, the system detected a one-year historical exposure window in three weeks.

Across the evaluated customer environments, the company identified vulnerabilities in 100% of the assessments. High or critical severity issues accounted for 37% of the surfaced exposures. Palo Alto Networks noted that artificial intelligence attacks can compress breach execution cycle times by up to 97%.
