Shares rose over 1% as the payments network joined Shopify and Stripe
PayPal announced on September 22, 2026, that it is partnering with Meta Platforms to bring PayPal checkout to Meta's Muse personal AI agent. The agreement enables users to shop and check out across PayPal merchants worldwide. Following the news, Meta shares rose more than 1%, extending gains from the prior session.
Meta launched Muse on September 8, 2026. Unlike conventional chatbots, the agent can book travel, fill out forms, and execute transactions on behalf of users after asking for approval. At launch, Meta integrated Stripe's Link, enabling purchases at over one million businesses. Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke also announced a partnership to bring Shop Pay checkout across all Shopify stores, though Amazon has blocked Muse on its site. Shopify shares traded up more than 7%.
Muse recorded 2.8 million downloads across the United States and Canada during its first 12 days, according to Reuters, reaching the top spot among free apps in Apple's U.S. App Store. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Truist analyst Youssef Squali estimated that Muse could generate $28.5 billion in additional revenue for Meta by 2030 as heavy users adopt paid tiers.
