Plug Power ships 1 MW electrolyzer to HWR in New Zealand

Plug Power announced on September 22, 2026, the shipment of a 1 MW GenEco PEM electrolyzer to HWR Hydrogen, a division of H.W. Richardson Group Limited. The delivery expands the company's equipment footprint across New Zealand and Australia.

The unit will be installed at HWR Hydrogen's refueling station in Invercargill, New Zealand. It will produce hydrogen locally to supply HWR's fleet of dual-fuel hydrogen-diesel heavy trucks, built with systems from Change Fuel Technologies, as well as future original equipment manufacturer vehicles across the Southland region.

This installation expands Plug Power's ongoing presence in the region, where its electrolyzers already support Hiringa Energy's green hydrogen refueling network in New Zealand. In Australia, the company was selected to supply a 50 MW GenEco PEM electrolyzer system for Orica's Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub, a project expected to produce approximately 4,700 metric tons of renewable hydrogen annually.

Globally, Plug Power has deployed more than 76,000 GenDrive fuel cell systems and over 280 hydrogen-powered material handling sites. The company also operates domestic hydrogen production facilities in Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana, representing a combined capacity of approximately 40 tons per day.
