Analyst Reginald Smith set a $22 price target while citing interest rate risks.
SoFi Technologies shares fell 3.3% in afternoon trading on 10 September 2026 after Loop Capital initiated coverage of the fintech company with a Hold rating and a $22 price target. The stock later trimmed its decline to trade at $17.42, down 3.1% from the previous close.
Loop Capital analyst Reginald Smith stated that while the business maintains strong growth potential, interest rate risks and a shift toward more asset-intensive lending will weigh on investor sentiment. The brokerage firm noted that an asset-intensive model increases balance sheet capital requirements, presenting near-term headwinds despite long-term expansion plans.
The stock has experienced high volatility, recording 34 swings of more than 5% over the past year. Six days earlier, the shares rose 4.7% following remarks from Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller, who signaled potential support for keeping interest rates steady if favorable economic trends continue.
At $17.42 per share, SoFi is down 36.6% year to date and trades 45.9% below its 52-week peak of $32.21 reached in November 2025. An investor who bought $1,000 of SoFi stock five years ago would hold shares valued at $1,110.
