Alupar wins environmental permit for Puno Sur in Peru

Brazilian energy company Alupar announced on Tuesday, September 29, that it obtained the environmental license for its Puno Sur project in Peru. The regional energy and mining authority of the Puno Regional Government, DREM, issued the permit on September 28.

The project includes the Nova Subestación Eléctrica Puno Sur and a 9.5-kilometer transmission line that will connect to Peru's National Interconnected Electric System, known as SEIN. Alupar expects the facilities to begin commercial operations in 2028, bolstering electricity supply reliability for the city of Puno and surrounding rural areas.

Investor Relations Director Luiz Eduardo Muniz Coimbra stated in a market filing that obtaining the license concludes the required licensing phase to start construction, subject to established environmental conditions.

The project forms part of an investment cycle of around 10 billion Brazilian reais in transmission assets, which the company describes as the largest in its history. Those assets are scheduled to enter operation by 2031. Coimbra noted that Alupar is expanding internationally with existing local knowledge and structure in Peru.
