The 2027 investment aims to boost driver pay to nearly $24 per hour and expands AI tools.
Amazon announced on September 21, 2026, that it will invest another $1.9 billion in its Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program in 2027. The funding aims to help delivery business owners raise average driver earnings by roughly $1 to nearly $24 per hour across the United States. Over the past three years, these program investments have raised driver pay by an average of 16% nationwide.
The latest capital injection brings Amazon's total investment in the eight-year-old DSP program to $21.7 billion. The company reported that serious vehicle crashes dropped more than 23% across its network last year following more than $543 million spent on safety initiatives and technology since 2022. By the end of this year, Amazon plans to install new surround-view cameras in 50% of its Rivian electric delivery vehicles.
The company is also rolling out AI-driven tools, including its Wellspring generative AI mapping system. Since 2024, Wellspring has identified 202 million parking locations, 2.8 million building entrances, and 85,000 mailrooms and lockers. Amazon also plans to deploy more than 20,000 units of its AI-powered Smart Delivery Glasses by the end of 2027.
In addition to operational technology, Amazon committed $70 million over the next five years to community impact programs led by DSP owners. That initiative includes expanding Amazon Local Good, which completed 4,800 routes in 2025 and aims to deliver more than 150 million essential items and meals over the five-year period.
