Petrobras aims to supply 90% of Brazil's diesel market

Petrobras still aims to achieve diesel self-sufficiency in Brazil to eliminate dependence on fuel imports. Magda Chambriard, CEO of Petrobras, announced the goal on September 21 during the ROG.e oil and gas conference in Rio de Janeiro.

Under its 2026-2030 business plan, the state-run company intends to supply 90% of the domestic diesel market. Currently, Petrobras meets 70% of Brazilian demand, while the remaining 30% is covered by imports.

Chambriard noted that Brazil operates a highly reliable refining system capable of meeting demand during external shocks, referencing international market disruptions tied to conflict in the Middle East. She highlighted Brazil's legal security, regional stability, and mature regulatory framework as competitive advantages for the country as a reliable oil producer.

Regarding exploration, Chambriard said Petrobras is moving forward in the Equatorial Margin and the Pelotas Basin to sustain future production. She also highlighted the company's natural gas discoveries in Colombia, developed in partnership with Colombian state-run oil company Ecopetrol.
