Elon Musk aims for test launches by 2027 and a network of up to one million satellites.
SpaceX plans to begin launching Nvidia's advanced artificial intelligence computers into orbit as early as 2027, according to Elon Musk. The concept seeks to bypass earthbound resource limits by adapting Starlink satellites with solar power and Nvidia hardware, aiming for larger deployments by 2028 and an eventual constellation of up to one million satellites.
Nvidia is designated as the exclusive chip supplier for the initiative, in addition to holding a sizable stake in SpaceX. While land-based data centers face tightening constraints on power grids, water, and land, orbital computing would rely on solar power and boundless space. However, severe technical hurdles remain, including heat dissipation in a vacuum, radiation shielding, and repair logistics, with analysts forecasting no meaningful revenue before around 2029.
In the market, Nvidia shares have gained roughly 10% since the start of August, while SpaceX shares rose around 45% over the same stretch, though both have traded roughly flat over the past month.
