Average compensation climbs past $32 per hour with benefits after a $1 hourly hike
On 16 September 2026, Amazon announced a $1.5 billion investment in compensation for its frontline operations team. Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations Udit Madan detailed the plan on the company's corporate site.
The company is raising hourly pay by $1.00 for eligible full-time operations employees in the United States. This increases the minimum starting wage for full-time core operations roles nationwide to $20.00 an hour, marking a 17% cumulative increase in minimum starting pay over the past three years.
With this wage adjustment, average hourly pay for core operations staff reaches $24.00. Total average compensation rises to $32.00 per hour once benefits are included.
Amazon is also introducing new perks starting 1 October 2026. Employees will receive a 10% discount on eligible online grocery and essentials purchases, alongside a 20% discount on eligible in-store purchases at Whole Foods Market. A new banking benefit provides up to $300 annually in reimbursements for out-of-network ATM fees.
These updates complement existing offerings, including the entry-level Essential Plan healthcare coverage, which costs workers $5.00 weekly with a $5.00 copay for primary care visits. The Career Choice program continues to provide up to $5,250 in annual prepaid tuition, while 150,000 hourly workers have utilized the Brightside Financial Care program since 2022.
