On 16 September 2026, Amazon announced a wage increase across its Canadian operations. The move comes as the company faces pressure over the first union contract soon to be awarded to workers at its YVR2 facility in Delta, British Columbia.
The pay bump coincides with the pending conclusion of mediation ordered by the British Columbia Labour Relations Board. Following months of delays and challenges by Amazon, the union Unifor sought a first contract through binding arbitration.
It's about time Amazon recognizes that if they want to operate in Canada, they will do it while respecting the rights of the very workers they employ. We're going to keep the pressure on to see workers across Canada benefit from the gains made through collective bargaining.
Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle stated that pay raises are only one part of the equation, adding that a union gives workers a voice in addressing health, safety, and operational speed ups. Unifor represents 320,000 workers across Canada's private sector.
