Aneel Suspends Axia Energia Wind Unit

Brazil's electricity regulator Aneel suspended the operation of a generation unit owned by Axia Energia on 10 September 2026. The suspension followed a fire in equipment manufactured by Siemens Gamesa.

The incident affected the 2 MW generating unit AG04 at the Capão do Inglês wind farm, located in Santana do Livramento in Rio Grande do Sul. The fire caused severe damage to the nacelle and its components, as well as damage to the blades of the wind turbine.

Axia Energia informed Aneel that it is carrying out actions to repair the equipment. The company estimates that returning the unit to commercial operation could take up to 36 months.

The Capão do Inglês wind park consists of five Siemens Gamesa G114 model wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 10 MW. Axia Energia maintains a contract with Siemens Gamesa for the operation and maintenance of the turbines, while overall process management remains with the concessionaire.

Axia Energia reported to Aneel that operational data, electrical and thermal readings, and maintenance logs showed no prior anomaly. The company described the fire as a sudden event, adding that the definitive cause will be determined once an ongoing technical investigation concludes.
