Shares of
Banco do Brasil surged nearly 13% on Monday following the results of the first round of Brazil's presidential election. At 10:34 a.m. in Brasilia, the stock rose 12.73% to 26.74 Brazilian reais.
The market reaction followed vote counts showing Flavio leading the first round with 47.03% of the votes, compared to 45.16% for Lula. Market professionals view a reversal in the second round, scheduled for October 25, as unlikely.
Investor optimism emerged because market participants view Flavio as more likely to prioritize public fiscal adjustments, even though specific plans remain unclear. In contrast, a significant portion of the market continues to express skepticism toward Lula.
