Chevron evacuates staff from Gulf of Mexico platforms

Chevron started evacuating non-essential workers from its Gulf of Mexico platforms on October 6, 2026, in response to the approach of Tropical Depression Nine.

The company maintained regular operations despite the personnel moves. Chevron reported that 0 barrels per day of offshore output have been shut in or curtailed.

Tropical Depression Nine formed with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. The offshore Gulf of Mexico accounts for about 15% of total U.S. crude oil production and 5% of total U.S. natural gas production.
