Chipotle builds food safety tool on Palantir

On 17 September, reports revealed that Chipotle Mexican Grill is building a food safety risk management platform using Palantir Technologies' Foundry software. The tool evaluates health department inspection scores, pest incidents, and employee illnesses to give each restaurant a food safety score.

Laurie Schalow, chief corporate affairs and food safety officer at Chipotle, confirmed the initiative. She stated that the company is piloting the platform to provide a more consistent and centralized view of food safety risk across its restaurants.

The project follows a period where the FDA has identified over 12,800 illnesses tied to foodborne outbreaks this year. In July, Chipotle stopped serving jalapenos from one supplier after a salmonella outbreak sickened more than 430 people.

Palantir also works with companies like Tyson, General Mills, and the purchasing co-op for Wendy's. Its US commercial revenue grew 149% to $764 million in the latest quarter. In premarket trading, Chipotle shares rose 0.65%, while Palantir gained 0.73%.
