Shares of Brazilian education group Cruzeiro do Sul rose 9.15% to 6.68 Brazilian reais on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, following a report by Exame that Singapore sovereign fund GIC is seeking options to reduce or exit its stake in the company.

GIC holds approximately 37% of Cruzeiro do Sul, a stake valued at 2.2 billion Brazilian reais. According to the report, GIC is holding talks that extend beyond a direct sale, with a business combination with another education operator considered a more viable path.

One primary option being explored involves Vitru Educação, whose investors are also seeking exit alternatives. Other potential candidates circulating in discussions include Cogna Educação and Ser Educacional.

The development comes amid consolidation in Brazil's higher education sector, which recently saw Afya and Yduqs agree to a merger creating an entity with 1.6 million students across 176 campuses, projecting synergies of up to 2 billion Brazilian reais.
