CVS says 69% of Aetna Medicare members are in 4-star plans

The 2027 Star Ratings from CMS rank the business among top large public Medicare Advantage insurers.

Aetna, a subsidiary of CVS Health Corporation, announced on October 8, 2026, that more than 69% of its Medicare Advantage members are enrolled in 2027 plans rated 4 stars or higher out of 5 stars by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This marks the third consecutive year that Aetna ranks among the highest-performing large, publicly traded Medicare Advantage organizations in the program.

Steve Nelson, President of Aetna, stated that the results reinforce the company's focus on operational discipline and clinical quality. Nelson noted that this performance provides confidence in achieving the goal of returning to appropriate margins while improving member outcomes.

Among clinical quality metrics, Aetna achieved 4.77 stars out of 5 on Plan All-Cause Readmissions. The insurer earned 5.00 stars for Care for Older Adults Medication Review and 4.03 stars for Functional Status Assessment. In preventive care screenings, it scored 4.19 stars for colorectal cancer and 4.07 stars for breast cancer.

In member experience and operational scores, the company recorded 4.29 stars for low rates of complaints about the drug plan, 4.22 stars for rating of health care quality, 4.07 stars for getting needed prescription drugs, and 4.04 stars for customer service. Operational ratings included 4.99 stars for call center interpreter availability, 4.08 stars for reviewing appeals decisions, 4.01 stars for timely appeals decisions, and 4.01 stars for drug price accuracy.

The ratings reflect CMS data released on October 8, 2026, based on enrollment figures from September 2026. As of June 30, 2026, CVS Health served approximately 37 million people through its health insurance products and operated about 9,000 retail pharmacies.
