Ecopetrol Board Member Hildebrando Vélez Resigns

Ecopetrol announced that board member Hildebrando Vélez Galeano submitted his resignation, which becomes effective on Tuesday. The state-run oil company disclosed the departure on 15 September through a regulatory filing with the Superintendencia Financiera.

The exit leaves Ecopetrol holding its extraordinary shareholder meeting on 15 September with virtually no remaining board members from the administration of Gustavo Petro. Several directors had previously departed following the arrival of the new administration of Abelardo De La Espriella.

Vélez is the father of former Mines Minister Irene Vélez. In previous statements, he had justified remaining on the board by arguing that a company like Ecopetrol could not be left headless.

In its regulatory disclosure, Ecopetrol thanked Vélez for his contributions to the board, noting his work on environmental matters and community relations across regional territories.
