Edenor installed its first bidirectional electricity meter for a residential customer in the San Fernando district of Buenos Aires province. This pilot test allows the user to sell surplus renewable electricity back to the public power system.
The first system features 24 solar panels with a combined nominal power of 6 kilowatts. The overall distributed generation trial will cover three customers in the T2 tariff bracket, soon adding an educational institution in Bella Vista and a small-to-medium enterprise in the City of Buenos Aires.
Participants pay for their own generation equipment while Edenor supervises the technical conditions and uses remote metering to track power flows. The setup relies on two electronic devices: a unidirectional meter measuring home consumption and a bidirectional meter tracking energy injected into the network. For this pilot, compensation matches the standard rate per kilowatt-hour from the current tariff schedule.
The trial follows Law 27,424, which the Senate approved on 29 November to establish a promotion regime for distributed renewable generation. The Ministry of Energy still needs to issue secondary regulations through the Undersecretariat of Renewable Energy.
