Enel Chile receives first 74 batteries for Valle del Sol

Enel Chile received the first 74 battery units for its Valle del Sol BESS energy storage project in Chile through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Chile. The shipment represents more than half of the 147 planned units, and overall construction has reached approximately 60% completion.

The battery system is being built inside the Valle del Sol photovoltaic plant in the municipality of María Elena, located in the Antofagasta Region. The solar plant has been operating since 2023 with an installed capacity of 163 MW. The addition of storage will turn the site into a hybrid facility.

Civil works are entering their final stage while electromeliminary and electromechanical tasks begin. Key components including inverters and transformers are already installed on site. Once operational, the system will feature an installed capacity of 186 MW and an annual injection capacity of 218 GWh.

The facility will use Grid Forming technology to help stabilize grid voltage and frequency. The system will store solar power during low-demand periods or grid constraints to prevent renewable curtailment and release electricity when the national power system requires it.
