The new network supplies the Noronha Terra Association under the Noronha Verde project
Brazilian utility Neoenergia completed the construction of a dedicated power grid for farmers of the Noronha Terra Association in Fernando de Noronha. The project delivers the first social and environmental offset commitment under the Noronha Verde program, which aims to transform the island's energy matrix.
The new network replaces worn-out infrastructure that disrupted local operations. The upgraded setup is designed to power crop irrigation, beekeeping, and other agricultural activities on the archipelago.
Daniel Daibert, environmental superintendent at Neoenergia, stated that the next step will be energizing the network after the standard entrance connection is installed. Remaining commitments scheduled for delivery in the coming months include dredging and restoring the Ema reservoir, renovating the Casa da Farinha market facility, and fencing the association's production land.
The broader Noronha Verde project includes solar photovoltaic generation and battery storage systems to cut fossil fuel dependence and boost energy security. The initiative forms part of the Mais por Noronha program in partnership with Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Pernambuco state government.
