The retailer plans a new physical store and a dedicated dark store in the State of Mexico.
The Home Depot announced on 8 September an investment of 500 million pesos in the State of Mexico. The capital will fund a new retail location in the municipality of Lerma and a dark store dedicated strictly to online order fulfillment. The project will generate 100 new jobs.
Roberto Rivapalacio, Senior Manager of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs for The Home Depot Mexico, stated that the Lerma retail store will span nearly 5,000 square meters. The company has secured the land, is working through administrative permits, and plans to open the store in 2028. The State of Mexico already holds the chain's largest concentration of Mexican branches, with 17 units.
The retailer also established its only dark store in Mexico at the Lerma site. The facility holds the 5,400 products most requested by online customers. Rivapalacio noted that the online platform receives 260 million visits per year, which represents four to five times more shoppers than its physical stores.
The move is part of a broader logistics overhaul begun in 2019. Since 2020, the company has opened eight specialized logistics hubs, tripling its logistics capacity, and plans to open a ninth node in Chihuahua next week. These projects fit into a 1,300 million dollar investment program announced in February of last year to grow from roughly 140 locations toward a goal of 160. The chain operates 144 stores today, expects to reach 145 by year-end with an opening in Querétaro, and plans further openings for 2027 in Mérida and San Miguel de Allende.
