Wall Street closed mixed on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, as investors monitored Middle East tensions and crude oil prices. The Nasdaq rose 0.45% to end at 27,244 points, marking its second consecutive all-time high.
The Dow Jones fell 0.36% to 51,863 points, while the S&P 500 slipped less than one point to finish at 7,764. Losses were led by financial shares, down 1.98%, followed by energy and communication services, which each dropped 1.01%. The technology sector rose 0.63%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell to $94.59 per barrel. Japanese news agency Kyodo reported that Iran offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States takes initial steps to ease military pressure. US President Donald Trump stated at the UN General Assembly that his administration held a meeting with the Iranian delegation in New York and expressed confidence in reaching an agreement after the November legislative elections.
In fixed income, the 10-year US Treasury yield fell to 4.955%, while the 30-year yield declined to 5.297%. In other markets, gold rose to $4,397 per ounce, and bitcoin slipped slightly to $86,328.
